Shadakshari Mantra. Shad means six and akshara means syllables, so the Shiva shadakshari mantra is the six syllable Aum Namah Sivaya mantra. Aum Namah Sivaya is three words and six syllables- so it takes the third house energy (parakrama) to the sixth house. Sixth house rules karma/works/service and also shad-ripus (our weaknesses). Auс╣Г maс╣Зi padme h┼лс╣Г[┬а(Sanskrit:┬ареР рдордгрд┐рдкрджреНрдореЗ рд╣реВрдБ,┬аIPA:┬а[├╡╦Р╦Р m╔Р╔│╔кp╔Рdme╦Р ╔ж┼й╦Р]) is the six-syllabled┬аSanskrit┬аmantra┬аparticularly associated with the four-armed┬аShadakshari form┬аof┬аAvalokiteshvara, the┬аbodhisattva┬аof compassion. It first appeared in the┬аMahayana┬аK─Бraс╣Зс╕Нavy┼лhas┼лtra┬аwhere it is also referred to as the┬аsadaksara┬а(six syllabled) and the┬аparamahrdaya, or тАЬinnermost heartтАЭ of┬аAvalokiteshvara.┬аIn this text the mantra is seen as condensed form of all the Buddhist teachings.
The first word┬аAum/Om┬аis a sacred syllable found in┬аIndian religions. The word┬аMani┬аmeans 'jewel' or 'bead',┬аPadme┬аis the 'lotus flower' (the Buddhist sacred flower), and┬аHum┬аrepresents the┬аspirit┬аof┬аenlightenment.
In┬аTibetan Buddhism, this is the most ubiquitous mantra and the most popular form of religious practice, performed by laypersons and monastics alike. It is also an ever present feature of the landscape, commonly carved onto rocks, known as┬аmani stones, painted into the sides of hills or else it is written on┬аprayer flags┬аand┬аprayer wheels.
Due to the increased interactions between Chinese Buddhists and Tibetans and Mongolians during the 11th century, the mantra also entered┬аChinese Buddhism.┬аThe mantra has also been adapted into Chinese┬аTaoism
